Multi-Currency Storefronts in Shopify

You're shipping to AU, US, UK customers. Each sees prices in their own currency. You're running multi-currency in Shopify. Most AU operators set this up wrong — using a single store with currency display widgets, instead of properly-configured Shopify Markets. The wrong setup loses 5-15% of conversion through confusing experiences. Today: multi-currency storefronts done right.
What "multi-currency" actually means
Three levels of multi-currency in Shopify:
Level 1: Single store, currency switcher widget.
- Customer sees prices converted in real-time using a third-party app
- Currency conversion happens at display, not at checkout
- Customer pays in store currency (typically AUD)
- Shopify charges customer in AUD; their bank converts to local currency (with FX fees)
