Module 06 — TikTok Shop & TikTok Ads
TikTok Shop Refunds, Disputes, and Banned-Account Recovery
9 min · video · Intermediate
TikTok Shop just disabled your store. No warning. Two creators are mid-post. Your monthly revenue line drops to zero overnight. The 48 hours after that notification decide whether you recover or the channel is dead. Today: the recovery protocol.
How TikTok Shop bans actually happen
TikTok Shop AU enforces seller compliance more aggressively than any other dropshipping marketplace. Three triggers account for 90% of suspensions:
- Refund rate above 5% sustained for 30 days. TikTok's customer-trust metric. Disputes count double-weighted toward this number.
- Counterfeit or restricted-category claim. Health products, cosmetics, electronics with batteries — TikTok's auto-flagging is aggressive. False positives are common; appeals work.
- Customer service response time above 24 hours sustained. TikTok's seller dashboard tracks every customer message; response time over 24h triggers warnings, then suspensions.
The ban notification arrives via the seller dashboard and via the email associated with your TikTok Shop account. It states the reason, the suspension duration (usually 7-30 days), and the appeal window (usually 48 hours).
Hour 1-4: triage
- Read the notification carefully. Note the specific policy cited and the appeal deadline. TikTok's notification templates are not always clear on duration; if unclear, treat as 30 days.
- Pause all live affiliate creators. Email your 5-10 creators: "Pause posting for [your brand] for 7 days while we resolve a TikTok Shop matter. We will pay agreed fees regardless."
- Pause all Spark Ads. Manual pause in TikTok Ads Manager. Do not rely on auto-pause.
- Email your customer service VA. Brief them on standard responses: "We are temporarily not processing new orders via TikTok Shop. Existing orders ship as normal. Refunds are processed per our standard policy."
Hour 4-24: appeal
The appeal is filed via the seller dashboard's "Appeal" button on the suspension notification. The format that wins:
- Section 1 — Acknowledgement. "We acknowledge the policy concern flagged by TikTok Shop." Don't argue; acknowledge.
- Section 2 — Specific facts. State your refund rate, response time, or relevant compliance metric using the exact numbers from your seller dashboard. If the rate breached the threshold for a documented reason (e.g., supplier defect on a specific batch), include the timeline.
- Section 3 — Remediation actions. List the 3-4 concrete actions you have taken in the last 4 hours: paused affiliates, briefed CS team, contacted supplier, etc. Include screenshots.
- Section 4 — Commitment. State your target metrics going forward (e.g., refund rate under 3%, response time under 8 hours) and the systems you will put in place.
Submit. Do not contact TikTok again until you receive a response (typically 24-72 hours).
Hour 24-48: protect existing customers
While the appeal is in flight:
- Process all in-flight orders normally. Do not freeze fulfilment. TikTok tracks fulfilment rate during suspension; missing this hurts the appeal.
- Respond to all customer messages within 4 hours. Use your VA stack. Set the goal: 0 unanswered messages by hour 36.
- Document everything. Screenshot daily metrics, customer messages, supplier communications. If the suspension extends, this becomes evidence.

Recovery patterns
Three outcomes are common:
- Suspension overturned (40% of cases when appeal is filed properly): Shop reinstated within 7-14 days. Resume operations with metrics under threshold.
- Suspension upheld but shortened (35% of cases): Original 30-day ban reduced to 14 days based on remediation actions. Accept and execute.
- Suspension upheld in full (25% of cases): 30-day ban runs full course. Resume with strict compliance going forward.
In all three outcomes, the metric to watch in the 90 days after recovery is refund rate. TikTok Shop's auto-suspension trigger is a 30-day rolling average; you cannot afford another breach for 90 days.
When the ban is permanent
A second suspension within 6 months typically results in a permanent shop closure. There is no formal recovery from this — you cannot create a new TikTok Shop on the same business entity. Some operators register a new ABN and rebrand; this is a 30-60 day rebuild and a regulatory/legal grey area. Most operators who hit a permanent ban migrate to Shopify-only and treat TikTok as paid-Spark-Ads-only going forward.
Why this matters
Bans feel like the end of TikTok Shop. The data says they are not — 75% of first-time suspensions resolve to a working shop within 30 days, often with metrics tighter than before. The operators who recover are the ones who treat the 48-hour appeal window as documentation work, not panic time. File the appeal correctly. Protect existing customers. Let TikTok run its process.
