7 Signals a Product Is About to Break Out

Breakout products leave fingerprints weeks before they explode. These are the seven signals we watch across millions of listings, ranked by how early they fire.

The anatomy of a breakout

Products do not explode out of nowhere. Between "nobody knows this exists" and "everyone is selling it," there is a 3 to 6 week window where the signals are visible to anyone watching the source data. That window is where the real money is made, before CPMs inflate and before twenty competitors clone the winning creative.

These seven signals are ordered by how early they typically fire. The earlier the signal, the noisier it is; the later, the more certain but less valuable. The skill is acting on combinations.

Signals 1 to 3: the early tremors

  • 1. Velocity inflection: weekly order growth at the source jumps from single digits to 15%+ and holds for two consecutive weeks. The single earliest reliable tell.
  • 2. Variant divergence: one specific variant starts eating a growing share of orders. Somebody, somewhere, is promoting that exact version.
  • 3. Geographic spread: orders that were concentrated in one country begin appearing across three or more markets in the same fortnight. Organic virality travels; paid tests usually do not.

Two tremors = start your prep

Any one early signal can be noise. Two firing on the same listing within a week is your cue to prepare creatives and a store page, before the confirmation signals arrive.

Signals 4 to 6: the confirmation wave

  • 4. Review acceleration: review cadence compresses from weekly to daily. Deliveries from the first demand wave are landing, and they are landing well.
  • 5. New-seller influx: fresh AliExpress listings for the same product appear in clusters. Suppliers can see demand data too, they multiply when it is real.
  • 6. First ad-library ripples: two to five advertisers appear where there were zero. You are no longer first, but you are early, and the CPMs are still sane.

By the time signals 4 to 6 fire together, the breakout is essentially confirmed. This is the highest-confidence entry point that still leaves meaningful upside, most people arrive two stages later.

Signal 7: the one that means you are late

Signal 7 is guru coverage: the product appears in "winning products" videos, newsletters, and spy-tool leaderboards. It feels like validation. It is actually a countdown clock. Guru coverage marks the moment supply of sellers begins growing faster than demand of buyers.

When the product hits the leaderboards, the people who made real money on it are already testing their next one.

Late is not hopeless, it is just different

Entering at signal 7 can still work with a differentiated angle, a neglected geo, or a bundle. What does not work is running the same creative to the same audience as everyone who arrived before you.

How to watch for this at scale

Nobody can manually monitor velocity inflections and variant divergence across thousands of listings. This is exactly what breakout alerts exist for: Majorka watches the source data continuously and emails you the moment a watched product or category trips the early-signal combination.

The workflow that wins: keep a watchlist of 20 to 40 candidates, let the alerts do the staring, and spend your saved hours on the two things software cannot do for you, creative angles and offer construction.
